Here are five things to be aware of before renting a car.

1) You must be at least 25 years of age. All reputable car rental agencies will require proof of age prior to you being able to rent the vehicle.

2) You don''t have to purchase extra vehicle insurance offered by the rental agency. Your best approach is to check with your own vehicle insurance company to determine what they cover when driving a rental car.

3) You can purchase an option to allow you to return the car with any amount of fuel left in it. Without this option you will need to make sure the vehicle is returned with the same amount of fuel as when you rented it.

4) Make sure where you are allowed to take the vehicle. Some agencies don''t allow their vehicles to be taken to certain areas or out of state without prior permission.

5) Make sure all drivers are accounted for with the rental agency before you finalize the paperwork. If multiple people will be driving the car, make sure this is stated up front.
